BFFs in Vegas

This time my BFF flew in to meet me in Vegas.  I swear it took a full day for our excitement being together in such a great place to subside so we could think straight.  Lots of walking, happy hours and best of all, Brooks and Dunn with Reba show! Such a fine, fine time.

CO Road Trip

Life has been extremely hectic lately so I took a weekend road trip with a good friend to Colorado as a welcome reprieve. Time to chat, laugh and listen to bluegrass music. Our plan to wander our way to Estes Park for a fiber festival.

There were breweries -- New Belgium, FCB and Odell to name a few.  I do love beer in the Rockies...
and the BEST yet yarn shop, My Sister Knits, in Fort Collins.  Seriously, no other shop will ever compare.
More beer and knitting in Estes
A fiber festival
and great mountain views to feed the soul.

25 Years

This is how we celebrate 25 years of marriage.  We've had a lot of adventures over the years that has made our time together seem to go by quickly but we've never made it to Vegas.  I've always wanted to see Hoover Dam.  Check!  Then a show in Vegas. Check! Poolside in Vegas.  Check, Check!! He learned to play blackjack and I walked miles and miles in my flip flops during the cool morning hours when most were sleeping.  We had a great time and will go back.

Table Rock Lake Getaway

My sister-in-law has a lake house in Shell Knob and we rented the cabin next door to them for the weekend.  It had a killer view and after finding it's for sale I found myself fantasizing about retiring and moving into it after falling in love with the heated tile floors, refurbished wood skating floor throughout and refurbished wood bowling alley countertops.

An eagle flew up the balcony as I sat drinking coffee this morning.

I hiked along the water's edge and picked out some driftwood to bring home to make a souvenir rustic tree for my front porch back home.

Taos, New Mexico where
we went the Wool Festival where I purchased Buffalo wool and finished a cowl
and celebrated a fantastic birthday in my gifted handknit shawl

I Love Oklahoma!

Oklahoma is one of my most favorite states.  From childhood cabin/lake weekends with my grandparents, family reunions, good BBQ, and riding destinations now as an adult.  I should also mention my most favorite yarn shop in Tulsa, Loops.  I just can't help myself.  The boutique atmosphere and inspiration is over the top. I always leave with several projects.  See how the samples of what I chose just draw you in??

He waited patiently in the parking lot on his Harley as I made a mad dash for yarn and then we were off to our weekend with friends on Lake Tenkiller outside Tahlequah.  For work or pleasure, I always like to stay in a lakeside cabin at Burnt Cabin Marina and Resort.  The floating marina/cafĂ© provides us with really good meals and a nice place to watch the full moon rise over the hilly tree line.

Canton Flea Market

Like true flea market junkies - we just can't get enough and had to swing by Canton for First Monday trade days for a few hours.  It sure made for a long day combined with a 500 mile drive back home -- but it was worth it.  I scored a $15 deal on a wooden chair I will repurpose.  It's just perfect to use with my spinning wheel.
Just another fun-filled 1,600 mile road trip with my momma!

Rod & Custom Show

Mom and I don't stay put for long.  It's on to Austin for the Lone Star Round Up car show full of rockabilly fun.
I have a thing for old Chevy trucks in rust bucket colors.

2014 Texas Antiques Week

YEEHAW!!
It's another fabulous road trip to Texas with my momma for shopping and antiques.  The bluebonnets are in full bloom and the temperatures in the low 80's.  This year we are staying a couple nights at a motel in Giddings and drove into Round Top our first day making the newly opened Junk Gypsy Headquarters our first stop.
It's true, Not All Who Wander are Lost.
Such an inspiring, colorful shop full of good stuff!
We walked all over Round Top and Warrenton for two days and then Thursday night was the Junk O Rama Prom where the Warrenton oudoor nightlife comes alive with cowboy boots and prom dresses, twinkle lights, music, beer and dancing.  It's the magical kind of night that you wake up the next morning wishing you could do it over again.

Mountain Camping

I made another trip to Washington State to see my childhood BFF, Laura, again. I only had a couple days off from work so it was an action packed long weekend. There was a day in Seattle, happy hour(s) at her home, a Jeep road trip for mountain camping in Leavenworth with her husband and a tubing trip down the rapids of the Wenatchee River. LOVE THIS LIFE!

Rocky Mountain High

I (we) needed a getaway.  Time on the road with nothing but the wind in my ears and my own thoughts.  Time to make peace with the stress, worries and disappointments that have filled my days.  As I think through all the issues in my head I take in deep yoga breaths and let them go with each cleansing exhale.  Within a couple hundred miles all my worries are gone and only a favorite song lyric comes to mind.  It's amazing how a long weekend traveling on the road with good friends can put things back into perspective.

We have a cozy A-frame cabin on the creek, great meals, small town shopping in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs all the while surrounded by a snowy Pikes Peak mountain.  The priceless kind of therapy professionals and/or medications just can't provide.

Austin Inspired

Travel inspires me.  I can go to a place, take it all in and feel a vibe.  Then I bring ideas home and make something that reminds me of my trip.  This time, with the artistic help of embroidery designs by an Austin artist, Sublime Stitching, I was able to recreate a day spent in Austin, Texas on South Congress Avenue (SoCo).  From the hip strip of eclectic shops with Dia De Los Muertos art, western flair at Allens Boots, reconstructed rockabilly clothing boutiques to the largest urban (Mexican free-tailed) bat colony that departs nightly from under the SoCo bridge.

This hand embroidered western shirt captures it all.
